Chris Sutton delivers scathing verdict on Rangers display v Celtic, calls for senior man to step up (not Caixinha)

Chris Sutton has branded Rangers’ display against Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday as ‘utterly shambolic’.

Rangers were haplessly beaten as their Old Firm rivals cruised to a 5-1 victory in the Scottish Premiership, ensuring they finish unbeaten from their six meetings with Rangers in all competitions this season.

Following the game, ex-Celtic striker Sutton took to his personal Twitter account to deliver a scathing verdict on the home side’s display, and urged chairman Dave King to ‘stand up and be counted.’

Rangers have been much criticised for their lack of quality in the squad, with veteran duo Kenny Miller and Clint Hill arguably the two best performers at Ibrox this term.

Manager Pedro Caixinha will be expected to make wholesale changes to his squad in the summer, having inherited a below-part unit from his predecessor, Mark Warburton.

But he will need the backing of the clubs’ board, and Sutton has called upon King to provide him with the necessary funds to bring Rangers back from their miserable state.

They fallen hopelessly adrift of their rivals this season, with Saturday’s defeat taking Celtic an incredible 36 points clear of their rivals in the Scottish Premiership table.

Goals from Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig completed the rout for Celtic, with Kenny Miller scoring a mere consolation goal late into the second half.
