Chris Sutton makes bold claim about Celtic ace after win against Hearts
By Amir Mir
Chris Sutton has made a bold claim by stating that Celtic ace Kieran Tierney is “one of the best left backs in Britain”.
Brendan Rodgers side beat Heart 4-0 on home soil on Sunday afternoon to break the Lisbon Lions’ 1967 record of 26 domestic games unbeaten.
Tierney played the full game in the Scottish Premiership clash as his pace and attacking threat on the left-hand side was too much for Ian Cathro’s men.
Late replacement Callum McGregor opened the scoring in the first half but the hosts only scored their second goal of the game on 77 minutes through Scott Sinclair.
Thereafter, the Bhoys cruised to victory with Partick Roberts adding a third three minutes later before Sinclair added his second of the game in stoppage time.
Former Premier League striker Sutton had this to say about the Hoops’ performance and youngster Tierney as posted on his personal Twitter account.
“Well done record breakers,” said Sutton. “Outstanding achievement. Tierney is sensational. One of the best left backs in Britain.”
Tierney has played 23 games in all competitions this season, providing eight assists, but he did recently return from a cruciate ligament injury.
The likes of Danny Rose, Cesar Azpilicueta and Ryan Bertrand are considered some of the best performing left-backs in Britain.
The comments by Sutton may be perceived to be bold claims because of the manner in which Scottish football is thought of across Britain and whether Tierney could produce the goods in a more tougher league.
