Christian Eriksen: Pundit shares ‘massive’ verdict on Newcastle winning transfer race
Newcastle United will struggle to sign Christian Eriksen amid interest from other Premier League clubs.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
As reported by the Northern Echo (14 June), Newcastle have held preliminary talks with Eriksen’s representatives over a move to St James’ Park but they accept they may struggle to lure the 30-year-old to Tyneside.

As revealed by Football Insider last month (23 June), Tottenham are among the clubs to have revisited their interest in the Denmark international.
On Tuesday (14 June) The Athletic also reported Man United have made an offer to sign the former Spurs man as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield options.
In the face of stiff competition, McAvennie claims Newcastle will struggle to sign Eriksen.
“He’s a quality player, no doubt about it,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“But Newcastle aren’t there yet. They have the money but Eriksen is someone who will join a club higher up in the league.
“With clubs like Man United and Tottenham interested, I just don’t see it. It will take a few years for Newcastle to get there in my opinion.
“They are a massive club, don’t get me wrong. But I think they are two or three years away from being able to make that signing.”

Eriksen scored once and chipped in with four assists for Brentford during the 2021-22 season.
He joined the Bees in January after recovering from his collapse at Euro 2020.
