Christiansen makes brutally honest admission about Leeds win against Hull
Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has admitted that his side were lucky to walk away with three points when they beat Hull 1-0 on Saturday.
The Whites continued their recent revival in form to ensure they would be in the Championship play-off spots by Christmas but to do so they had to grind out a win courtesy of Pablo Hernandez’s first-half goal.
Hull kept the pressure on Leeds for most of the encounter and now, after the game, Christiansen has given a brutally honest assessment of the all-Yorkshire clash and admits he was relieved to see his side battle out the 90 minutes to win the game.
“When it looked worst, we got our goal. They put us under high pressure and I have to be honest, we were lucky to take the three points,” he said, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening.
Leeds have shown a dramatic improvement in the past couple of weeks and now look as though they have their bid to reach the play-offs back on track.
A dreadful run of form between September and November saw the Yorkshire giants slip from top of the Championship table down to 10th, leading to a spate of calls for Christiansen to be sacked by the board.
However the marked improvement was perhaps personified by Saturday’s win against the Tigers, as if this game was to have happened over a month ago, it may have seen the Whites fail to secure all three points.
