Christopher Jullien ‘like a new signing’ as ‘brilliant’ Celtic pictures emerge – pundit

Ange Postecoglou will be “over the moon” to have Christopher Jullien back among his Celtic squad, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old can be “like a new signing” for the Hoops.

As pictured on his personal Twitter (13 February), Jullien returned to action for the first time in 409 days after being brought on for the final 16 minutes against Raith Rovers on Sunday.

The Frenchman had suffered a serious knee injury during Celtic’s clash with Dundee United in December 2020.

Whelan claimed the former Toulouse man has done well to remain positive throughout his mammoth layoff.

He also suggested Jullien could have an important part to play this season with Celtic still fighting on three fronts.

Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s absolutely brilliant, isn’t it?

“We knew all along that he’s one of the best centre-backs Celtic have within their ranks, but it’s been such a long road to recovery for him.

“That is a lengthy spell out where you’ve got to be watching from a distance and trying to stay positive through this recovery period.

“It’ll be like a new signing for Celtic and it just adds even more competition for places in that squad. That’ll be important with them still being in three competitions this season.

“It’ll be a welcome return and Postecoglou will be over the moon to see this and add another quality centre-half to his squad.”

Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers is currently Postecoglou’s first-choice pairing at centre-back.

Celtic

Celtic have conceded just 15 league goals this term, the fewest in the Scottish Premiership.

The Hoops sit top of Scotland’s premier division, leading rivals Rangers by just one point.
