Christopher Jullien told to seal Celtic exit after twist reported – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has insisted Christopher Jullien should leave Celtic this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker said the Hoops do not need to sign a replacement for the centre-half if he leaves this summer.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed (29 June) that the 29-year-old had been in talks with Schalke over a potential loan move with an option to buy.

However according to Sport 1, via Sport Witness (30 June), the talks broke down “at the last minute” after the player was unable to agree personal terms with the German club.

The Frenchman has one year left on his contract at Parkhead.

When asked by Football Insider if the Hoops would need to replace Jullien were he to leave Parkhead, McAvennie said: “The manager has two centre-halves there who he understands and he rates.

“Even when the boys were injured he was putting [Stephen] Welsh on instead of Jullien. Welsh did alright, I would’ve put him into that position. I think he’d do a good job there. I think he’s as good as the other centre-halves we’ve got.

“Jullien on the other hand, I don’t know where he’s going to go if the transfer has fallen through.

“Someone will take him, because he’s a good player. He’s just not what Ange [Postecoglou] wants. If the manager doesn’t want you, there’s no point hanging around.

“I think the fans will be happy if he goes. He did alright in the first season and he’s been injured for two so he’s got to get his career back on track and it’s not going to happen at Celtic, so he’ll have to move away.
