Clarke-Harris will snub Championship move to sign for Rangers after director update - Phillips

Kevin Phillips claims Jonson Clarke-Harris won’t turn down the chance to join Rangers this summer.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the striker can’t afford to wait for another big move.

Earlier this month, Football Insider revealed West Brom have entered the race for Clarke-Harris along with Rangers and Sheffield United.

In March, This site broke the news that Rangers had an early interest in signing Clarke-Harris after sending scouts to watch him in action.

In March, Posh Director of Football Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph, “Rangers have been to a lot of our matches this season and they were there on Saturday (v Accrington).

Phillips, who works as an EFL pundit for Sky Sports and Quest, claims a move to Ibrox will be tough to turn down.

“I did the EFL coverage last week and I see him quite a lot,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“My opinion is if he gets the chance to go to Rangers from the Championship you don’t turn that down.

“It’s different if you have just been promoted to the Premier League because I’d say the player would stay there.

“But he’s got that chance to go to Rangers and play European football. He’s coming off the back of a brilliant season and he’s only going to get better.

“I’m sure Peterborough fans don’t want to hear that but he’s 26, is that big move going to come around again?

“It’s a tough decision for him but it’s also tough to turn down.”

Clarke-Harris finished the season as League One’s top scorer, netting 31 goals in 45 outings.

Rangers have already signed one striker ahead of next season with Fashion Sakala joining from KV Oostende.

In other news, a “truly incredible” Ibrox reveal has handed Rangers a big-money opportunity.
