Claudio Echeverri is joining Man City in January – O’Rourke

Man City will bolster their attacking options in January as teenage sensation Claudio Echeverri will join the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Argentina Under-23 international is “very highly regarded.”

The Premier League giants signed the attacking midfielder from River Plate last January from River Plate, but he was sent back to the club on loan.

However, the 18-year-old is now set to move to the Etihad Stadium at the start of the new year.

Echeverri is under contract with the defending Premier League champions until 2028, with the club seeing him as a long-term option.

He will instantly boost Man City’s attacking options due to his versatility of playing on either wing or in the number 10 role.

Claudio Echeverri could solve an attacking issue for Man City

Man City didn’t sign a replacement for Julian Alvarez after he left for Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, but Echeverri could solve that issue.

Pep Guardiola wants someone to provide strength in depth, but the player is also not going to replace Erling Haaland.

A youngster like Echeverri could be ideal for that role as he develops his career while not being ready to play week in week out.

The teenager made 28 appearances last season in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

He also has nine Argentina Under-23s caps after breaking into the international scene.
