Cole Palmer: Fans savage ‘fraud’ as England footage re-analysed
England fans ripped into Chelsea star Cole Palmer after his shocking performance in their surprise 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Greece on Thursday (October 10).
Interim manager Lee Carsley handed the 22-year-old his first competitive start for England, featuring him alongside a vast array of impressive attacking talent.
Carsley played all of Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and Anthony Gordon, but none them had an answer for Greece’s dogged defence.
Palmer, recently named England’s player of the year after a remarkable first season in West London, ended the game with a zero per cent shot accuracy, notably missing a sitter in the 21st minute after being set up by Bellingham.
Greek forward Vangelis Pavlidis opened the scoring just after half-time, leaving Palmer and England shell-shocked.
Bellingham thought he had rescued a point with his 87th minute equaliser but Pavlidis had other ideas, scoring in added time to secure a memorable victory for the Greeks in the aftermath of George Baldock’s untimely passing.
Cole Palmer fails to impress in first England start
For Chelsea, Palmer’s meteoric rise continues, scoring six goals and providing five assists in the Premier League alone so far this season.
England fans, however, are hard to impress, and they took to X, formally known as twitter, to question the hype around the playmaker.
