‘Comedy gold’ – Aston Villa fans erupt at ‘pathetic solution’ to Villa Park atmosphere issues
Aston Villa supporters have exploded at the latest improvisation when it comes to a concerning atmosphere at home games this season.
On multiple occasions, Unai Emery has called for more noise to be made when the Villans are playing, despite his players still pushing for a role in the Premier League title race.
With just two wins in their last six home games across all competitions, performances have certainly dropped in recent weeks, and some are blaming the lack of support coming from the crowd.
Anfield and the Etihad Stadium are often picked out by fans as stadiums with less atmosphere, but Villa are clearly keen to avoid joining that list with a new plan for the Villa Park faithful.
Villa Park plans branded ‘pathetic’ ahead of Chelsea
Villa now have plans for a “singing section” tobe introduced to the lower North Stand for the Chelsea game on Wednesday, 4 March, with a view to these 50 seats taking up an area in future matches.
It is safe to say that the home supporters are not convinced by the plan, calling it out as “pathetic” and “comedy gold,” as the atmosphere continues to dwindle at Villa Park.
Supporters all over social media believe they have better solutions. Whether they do or not, there appears to be a unanimous verdict that the club’s solution is going to change absolutely nothing, sadly.
- @Kieronvillaman8: “This is a pathetic solution tbh.”
- @avfc21081160404: “The North stand is a silly section imo, get them in the Holte End.”
- @DanMatthewsAV: “Massively the wrong take here – it starts on the pitch and moves into the stands with performance/tempo. As good as we are, our style of play doesn’t get bums off seats. Similar to [Man] City and their atmosphere troubles.”
What has Unai Emery said about the Villa Park atmosphere?
While the manager has previously been very complimentary about the “fortress” that is Villa Park, more recently, he has pleaded with the supporters to make much more noise.
Earlier this month, he said [Express and Star], “The supporters gave a very great atmosphere, helping us (vs Newcastle). I felt something which maybe in the last matches I missed.
“The energy, the players as well, good mood. The supporters with the energy they transmitted to us, we need it again against Leeds,” and it clearly paid off with an 88th-minute equaliser against Leeds.
The supporters play such an important role in the football club, but unless they can rediscover the atmosphere that used to ring around Villa Park, there are huge questions left to be answered.
