Confirmed: Leeds agree fee for 23-year-old exit
By Danny Wright
Burnley have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Leeds over a fee for Charlie Taylor’s transfer.
The 23-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Clarets at the start of July after he reached the end of his contract at Elland Road.
As Taylor is a product of the Leeds academy and under the age of 24, the Whites were entitled to a compensation figure through tribunal.
However on Tuesday, Burnley confirmed on their official website that the two sides have shook hands on an “undisclosed fee” with a tribunal proving unnecessary.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported Leeds were expecting to receive at least £5million through a tribunal, but there has been no new figure confirmed by them or the Clarets.
Taylor had been a key player in the Whites first-team under the charge of Garry Monk last season.
He made 32 appearances across all competitions and supplied four assists as the Whites just missed out on a spot in the Championship play-offs.
However the left-back refused to play for Monk in the final match of the season against Wigan, ending his spell at Leeds on a very sour note.
Football Insider Verdict
It’s good that Leeds and Burnley have come to agreement outside of a tribunal as it will no doubt have saved a lot of time for both clubs’ legal departments. Tuesday’s news brings to an end what has been an ugly transfer saga at Elland Road and it’s likely that the Whites supporters will be glad that a line has been drawn underneath the whole case. Taylor could have been a star for Leeds, but he was always destined for greater things. However he could have gone about leaving the club in a much better way and now it would be fair to guess that he won’t get a very nice reception should he ever return to Elland Road in the future.
In other Leeds news, the Whites have reportedly tabled a bid for this Championship defender.
