Confirmed: Senior star thought missing available for Newcastle v Arsenal

Arsenal midfield Mohamed Elneny will be available for the clash against Newcastle United on Sunday after seeing his red card against Southampton overturned by the Football Association.

The Gunners confirmed via their official website and official Twitter account that the 25-year-old terrier, who has been a regular for the north London side this season, would avoid a three-match ban after an independent regulatory commission reversed the decision against the Saints.

The Egyptian midfielder had seen himself dismissed for what was adjudged to be violent conduct, but now the 25-year-old will be ready to play against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday, adding to his 29 appearances across all competitions this season, having started the last three Premier League matches for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Football Insider verdict

Elneny has gone from fringe player to regular first team star over the last month or so, and he would have been devastated to have been handed a red card which would keep him out of the following three games. Now he can keep his place in the senior side, and he is likely to do so considering the Gunners have their Europa League match in midweek. It is not good news for Newcastle though, who would have been hoping the Egyptian would be ruled out and Wenger would have to change his plans, as they chase a third consecutive victory which would be a near-certainty to secure their Premier League safety.
