Connor Goldson cited as Rangers teammate told ‘he’s like a rabbit in the headlights’ – expert
Leon King has had a “baptism of fire” at Rangers this season.
That’s according to former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about King’s new contract.
On 14 December, this site revealed that the 18-year-old has agreed a quadruple-your-money new deal.
The Light Blues were keen for the young defender to agree a new deal to alleviate fears that he would quit in January for a Premier League side.
Leeds United were among the clubs south of the border who offered a deal to King.
On 15 December, the Gers confirmed that the centre-back has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The academy graduate’s new deal runs until 2026.
The defender was not in the squad for the Gers’ 3-2 win over Hibernian on Thursday (15 December)
McAvennie insisted King is not ready to be a regular member of the starting XI.
“I think he has had a baptism of fire,” he told Football Insider.
“There is no way he would have had that many games. He is not ready to go into the first team yet. He needed to come in and out and it has not happened for him.

“He has been flung in with [Connor] Goldson being injured. He has been caught like a rabbit in headlights a few times.
“It is not his fault, because he is needing taught and he has not had that. I feel for him but I do not think they will sell him. He will be hanging about for another couple of years.“
