Connor Goldson: Rangers star signs new deal – ‘I have to question that’ says expert

Connor Goldson did not turn down offers from Premier League clubs to sign a new Rangers deal.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s new deal.

The Gers confirmed on Wednesday (1 June) that Goldson, 29, had signed a new four-year deal with the club.

His previous deal expired at the end of May and he looked set to quit the club after a four-year spell.

The Sun reported on Monday (30 May) that Nottingham Forest were ready to step up their attempts to sign the Englishman.

However, Kenny doubts there was ever any genuine interest from Premier League clubs.

“It’s one of those, I have question that, has he had Premier League offers?” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m not being funny, surely you want to go a play your trade in the Premier League.

“Has he had these offers? No disrespect to the Scottish league and Rangers but would you not want to test yourself?

“It’s the best league in the world. Listen, it’s a good signing for Rangers especially because it looked like he was going to leave.

“But I do question whether he’s actually turned anything down.”

Goldson played every game in every competition during the 2020-21 season as he helped his side win the Scottish Premiership.

He was also instrumental in the 2021-22 campaign as the Gers reached the Europa League final and win the Scottish Cup.
