Connor Goldson will want to ‘make amends’ at Rangers after manager’s reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers defender Connor Goldson will “want to make amends” for his performance in the Europa League final.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker suggested the 29-year-old remained at Ibrox after a costly error against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking to Football London (14 July), manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst insisted Goldson, 29, is one of the “pillars” of his Rangers team.

Goldson recently signed a contract extension, keeping him at Ibrox until 2026.

The centre-back is said to have rejected a move to the Premier League in favour of staying with the Scottish club.

When asked if Rangers had neglected their defence this summer, McAvennie told Football Insider: “They might think they’ve got a good defence.

They did will to get to the Europa League final so I can’t sit here and criticise them because they’ve got a great defensive record.

I would fancy my chances against them when I was playing, that’s all I can say.

I think they’re very regimental, they work as a team. If you can upset one of them, it’s like upsetting a pack of cards. That back four is rigid and you can tell they work on it all the time.

You can’t have a go at them defensively, they’ll think they’ve done well by getting to the Europa League final. I think if Goldson clears that ball coming across the box, they win the cup. That’s how close it was. It’s something that he will want to make amends for.”

In other news, Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers are spending money they don’t have amid emphatic Alfredo Morelos claim.
