Connor Goldson’s agent will be ‘working behind the scenes’ as Rangers talks revealed – McLeish

Alex McLeish has admitted Rangers face a “difficult” task to tie Connor Goldson down to a new contract.

The former Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old’s agent will be “working behind the scenes” as the defender heads into the final months of his current deal.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday (14 February), Rangers’ managing director Stewart Robertson insisted the club are “not resigned to losing” Goldson despite his contract situation.

He revealed sporting director Ross Wilson is holding “regular conversations” with those out of contract this summer.

However, McLeish insisted Goldson’s representatives will already be dealing with interest from elsewhere ahead of the summer.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s so difficult when he’s three months away or something from the end of the season and he can make his mind up.

“Maybe he’s got suitors already. Possibly his agent is working behind the scenes, I’m absolutely sure that would be the case. But he has the make the decision himself.

“There’s a really great chance that Rangers will be in the Champions League if they win this league. Who wouldn’t want that in the background of their career and CV?

“But, as I always say, the English Premier League, if somebody comes calling from there, it enticed Stevie Gerrard.

“So I’m sure that he’s probably just not got the final offer that he wants. Rangers have got some hard work ahead of them.

“But Goldson’s got to keep his standards really high. The best thing for everybody is he plays his top game and helps Rangers win that league.”

Goldson joined Rangers from Brighton in 2018.

He has played 200 times for the Light Blues to date.
