Conor Gallagher makes mind up on Newcastle United move – sources

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is not keen on a move to Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies have a long-term interest in the 24-year-old and remain in the mix with his contract at Chelsea continuing to run down, but are bracing for a blow in the race for his signature.

It is believed Newcastle are not in the leading pack to land Gallagher and club chiefs are not hopeful of persuading him to choose St James’ Park if he is to leave Stamford Bridge.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that he is not keen on a potential move to Tyneside despite Newcastle’s emergence as a Champions League contender.

Sources say his priority is to remain at Chelsea, with a move within London then preferred if that is impossible.

Newcastle brace for Gallagher snub as London move preferred

The England international’s contract is up in June 2025 and talks over a new agreement have reached an impasse – with Chelsea now expected to sell the midfielder to balance the books this summer.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (13 May) that Tottenham are still in the box seat to land Gallagher in the off-season.

That is despite a recent drop-off in form which sees them on the brink of missing out on Champions League football for the 2024-25 campaign.

Gallagher, who is likely to play at this summer’s European Championships, has made 48 appearances across all competitions this term – starting in 44 of those outings.

He has been given the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James by manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been public with his desire to keep him at Chelsea.
