Conor Hourihane sends message to Aston Villa fans after win against Bristol City

By Amir Mir

Conor Hourihane has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal for Aston Villa in their 2-0 win against Bristol City on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old slotted home in the second half after Jonathan Kodjia’s pass from the right-hand side found the midfielder unmarked inside the penalty area.

Prior to that goal, striker Kodjia headed his side into the lead after converting a brilliant cross from Albert Admomah.

The Ivory Coast international redeemed himself after missing a first-half penalty with his spot kick thundering off the crossbar.

After the game, Hourihane, who came on in the first half for the injured Gary Gardner, explained what it felt like scoring in front of the Holte End.

“Back to back wins, just what we needed,” Hourihane wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Special feeling getting my first goal in front of the Holte End.”

Midfielder Hourihane joined Steve Bruce’s side during the January transfer window from Championship rivals Barnsley.

Life in the Midlands did not begin smoothly for the playmaker because he suffered five straight defeats after joining the club.

One of those matches included a 3-1 home loss against his former club, but the Irishman will be pleased to get the first under his belt.

This season, Hourihane has played 31 Championship games, scoring seven goals and supplying 12 assists – the majority of those goals and assists coming for the Tykes.

Now, he will focus his attention to Saturday when Villa travel to rock-bottom Rotherham.
