‘Controlled aggression’ – Craig Gordon raves about Celtic senior player
Craig Gordon has paid tribute to the way that Celtic captain Scott Brown is still able to control games even though he is in the latter stages of his career.
The 32-year-old senior player will be a key figure in the Old Firm derby, and Gordon has revealed why he thinks Brown is still such an influential figure to the Scottish champions.
“Broony has a controlled aggression. Very, very rarely does he get it wrong,” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“He’s strong in the tackle, but he doesn’t go over the top. He’s just a good leader on the pitch and that brings everybody with him.
“When we’re on the pitch, when we need it, he’s the guy who will step up.
“I think his performances for the past few years have been outstanding. In these games he has been excellent and to play the amount of games he’s had in his 30s is exceptional.”
Brown has had a new lease of life at Celtic since Brendan Rodgers took over in May 2016. Before then it looked like injuries had taken their toll on the midfielder but he has played like a player reborn since the former Liverpool manager started working his magic.
He lead the Hoops to their first domestic treble since 2001 and first undefeated league season since the 1890s, and was a huge figure in the 69 match unbeaten domestic record that was set by the Hoops.
Brown has been a big player in matches against Rangers, going all the way to 2011 when he scored a now legendary equaliser in a 2-2 draw between the sides at Ibrox.
He will be expected to control the midfield, an area of the pitch which is always vital when deciding the outcome of the Old Firm derby.
