Corberan to Wolves: ‘West Brom exit bombshell emerges’
Carlos Corberan has emerged as the first choice to make a shock switch to Wolves should they sack Gary O’Neil, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto has reported.
O’Neil is under huge pressure at Molineux with his side 19th in the Premier League table, having won just three of their last 24 league games.
Expectations are growing that he will be sacked regardless of the result of Monday’s match (9 December) with West Ham.
A number of names have already been identified as potential candidates to take over from the 41-year-old at Wolves.
However, it is now stated that West Brom boss Corberan is at the top of the Premier League side’s list of targets to cross the derby divide and takeover from O’Neil if he leaves after that clash with the Hammers.
Carlos Corberan to Wolves would be a huge shock, Gary O’Neil exit would not
Football Insider Opinion
It would be a major surprise if Corberan was to leave his current role in order to take charge at Molineux.
The rivalry between West Brom and Wolves is among the biggest in the country, and the Spaniard has always shown a huge amount of commitment and affection for the Baggies.
As a result, disregarding all of that in order to join one of their biggest rivals would feel very unlike Corberan, and he would surely not want to throw away his relationship with the fanbase at The Hawthorns either.
It is also worth noting that Corberan previously turned down the chance to manage Leeds [Daily Mail] when they were in the Premier League, in favour of remaining with West Brom.
Given he did that despite previously working with the Elland Road club, it would be a surprise to see him take a different approach when it comes to his side’s biggest rivals.
With that in mind, even if he is top of their list of targets, Wolves may have to look at someone other than Corberan if they find themselves having to replace O’Neil in the near future.
