Coventry City: Frank Lampard plans to use his connections to sign Chelsea star
Coventry City are already making plans for the summer transfer window after Frank Lampard led his side to promotion to the Premier League.
While they remain in pursuit of the title, their promotion has allowed the recruitment team to begin work on identifying options to strengthen Lampard’s team.
Coventry are aware that they will need to invest in key areas if they are to avoid a relegation battle next term as they aim to replicate the success of Sunderland and Leeds.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Lampard is leading Coventry’s transfer plans and could utilise his own connections.
Given his links to Stamford Bridge, there is a feeling Lampard could use his connections to sign players from Chelsea, with fringe and academy players on their radar.

Football Insider revealed on 20 April that Coventry are planning for a busy transfer window this summer as they prepare to compete in the Premier League.
They are prepared to back Lampard in a bid to deter potential suitors, despite it being unlikely that he would be lured away from the CBS Arena at this stage.

Lampard has utilised his Chelsea connections at previous clubs to land the likes of Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori, and could do so again this summer.
“They have to assess their squad in the cold light of day,” Brown told Football Insider.
“How many Premier League level players have they got available to them at the moment? Maybe not more than three or four, being brutally honest.
“So the plan now has to be to add quality to the squad to give them the best chance of staying up.
“Frank Lampard has a good reputation as a player, of course, but also as a manager, and he has a lot of connections within the game he could exploit.
“He’s got a hell of a job on his hands at Coventry, but he will know that, so it’s about identifying the right players and at the right price.
“Frank could look at the Chelsea squad, he will know a lot about them and he knows people behind the scenes there who could point him in the right direction.
“If there are talented players coming through the academy who might not get a look-in there, or players on the fringes who could become available.
“Just because they’re not good enough for Chelsea, it doesn’t mean they’re not good enough for Coventry, and that could be something they look to exploit.
“It’s just one avenue they could go down in looking to strengthen the squad, because they have to be looking to improve when the window opens.”
Which Chelsea players could be available?
Chelsea have shown in recent windows that they are willing to sell players for the right price, particularly those on the fringes of their squad.
The Blues utilise player sales to allow for greater spending in the transfer market, and are believed to be open to offers for multiple players this summer.

Given the size of the squad available to Liam Rosenior, and the standard of academy player coming through, players are expected to be available.
For example, Football Insider revealed last month that Chelsea are willing to sell Axel Disasi permanently following his loan spell at West Ham.
The centre-back has transformed the Hammers’ chances of survival, but should they suffer relegation, another Premier League outfit could poach him.
