Cresswell tipped to exit Leeds on loan after confirmed news – Mills

Danny Mills has claimed Charlie Cresswell could leave Leeds United on loan in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted Cresswell is a good young player but will find it difficult to break into Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI.

The centre-back, 19, signed a new four-year deal with the Yorkshire giants last week.

He was also rewarded for his performances with the Under-23s with a first call up to the England Under-21 squad.

Cresswell’s only appearance for Leeds’ first-team came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Hull City last season.

The son of former Leeds and Preston North End striker Richard has been named on the bench twice in the Premier League this season.

Asked whether he could make a breakthrough this term, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think it would be difficult.

“He’s a good young player but to break into the Premier League as a centre-half when you’re that young is very, very difficult.

“It’s the ultimate position of trust so as a young player that’s very difficult.

“Unfortunately, the window’s closed for loan deals because it used to be open for a few weeks after the window closes.

“That opportunity has disappeared which is a shame because I think that would have been ideal for him to go out and learn real football, football that matters. The Under-23s is still development football.

“He might have to be patient this season and prove himself with the Under-23s then who knows? If he’s doing well and he’s not going to get in team during January then they might let him go out on loan.”
