Tottenham star Cristian Romero could push for a move away this summer with Atletico Madrid interested in the World Cup winner, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old is believed to be keen to play regular Champions League football and fight for trophies elsewhere – ambitions Spurs may not be able to fulfil.

Sources say the potential move to Atletico Madrid will appeal to Romero – who will have just two years left to run on his contract in June.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (31 March) that Tottenham could accept a bid of just £50million for the centre-back this summer.

It is believed the Argentina international could be persuaded to push for a move away in the off-season with a turbulent period expected at Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou is under huge pressure in the dugout with club chiefs exploring options to replace the Australian.

Romero could link up with countrymen Diego Simeone, Julian Alvarez and Rodrigo De Paul at Atletico Madrid if he makes the move.

Tottenham paid around £42million to Atalanta to land Romero and he has made 115 appearances for the Lilywhites.

The defender has missed the majority of this season through injury but has made his return to the starting line-up in recent weeks.

Postecoglou sack update emerges from Tottenham

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (1 April) Tottenham boss Postecoglou is not likely to cling on in the dugout if he doesn’t deliver Europa League success.

Silverware in Europe would salvage the season for Spurs and qualify them for the Champions League in the 2025-26 campaign.

But in the meantime, defeat in the upcoming London derby against rivals Chelsea on Thursday (3 April) could heap huge pressure on Postecoglou.
