Cristian Romero: Expert shares ‘world-class’ verdict on rarely-seen Tottenham star
Cristian Romero has been hailed as world-class after he made his long-awaited return from injury during Tottenham v Brighton.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Romero, 23, started as Spurs beat Brighton 3-1 on Saturday (5 February).
The defender had not featured for Spurs since 1 November after suffering a hamstring injury in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil on 16 November.
After an impressive performance, the club shared a highlight reel of the defender.
Wenham was left impressed and hopes Romero is able to play 90 minutes when Spurs face Southampton on Wednesday (9 February).
“Romero is one of our world-class players,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“We have to champion him when he plays well and I thought he was brilliant against Brighton.
“It was like he had never been away and you just have to watch that highlight reel to see that.
“There were no mistakes and that was so pleasing to see.”
“I hope he has been using this time on the sidelines to improve his English and make those other transitions to life in England.
“He has lost his closest ally in the squad with Lo Celso going. Though it does seem as though he is getting closer to players like Emerson Royal.
“I just hope he is ready to do another 90 minutes on Wednesday.”

Romero signed for Spurs from Italian Serie A side Atalanta last summer and he has played 13 times since his arrival in North London.
His initial loan move will be made permanent in the summer.
