Cristian Romero: Tottenham defender must fix fatal flaw to become ‘world class’ – Expert

Cristian Romero needs to improve his defending from set-pieces after making several errors in that position for Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 23, failed to track Ronaldo from a corner in the moments before he scored his third, and Man United’s winner, on Saturday (12 March).

As Tottenham drew level earlier in the game, Romero was spotted screaming in the face of Harry Maguire after he had just put through his own net.

Reacting to Romero’s antics, Roy Keane told Sky Sports, “No, no, [I] don’t like that”.

Wenham has no problem with Romero’s actions but insisted he must work on his defending from set-pieces.

“People are saying it has backfired but he’s not going to change, that’s how he is,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see that in his play. I have no issue with that.

“What I do have an issue with is his one to one marking at set-pieces.

“He got it wrong against Burnley and we conceded, he also got it wrong for Ronaldo’s third against Man United.

“He’s been getting away with it in other games but it has cost us on a few occasions now.

“That’s something he needs to work on, other than that he is absolutely world-class.

“It’s just that one thing he really needs to focus on, for me.”
