Cristiano Romero expected to miss Nottingham Forest trip after journalist’s Tottenham update – Robinson

Paul Robinson expects Tottenham defender Cristian Romero to miss Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said the 27-year-old will likely by rested by manager Antonio Conte with the trip to West Ham in mind.

Romero was sidelined for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wolves with an adductor injury.

The Argentina international was replaced by Davinson Sanchez in the starting lineup.

According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold (21 August), Romero offered to play against Wolves even though the medical department recommended three to four weeks of recovery time.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the centre-half was likely to return at the City Ground on Sunday, Robinson said: “Romero is Tottenham’s best defender so he will always be a miss.

“It really depends on his level of fitness as to whether he comes back in against Forest.

“We are not privy to that information but with two games in a week I suspect he will only play one.

“I think Conte will probably give him a little bit more time to recover and we will see him at West Ham next week. Spurs have options back there now with Sanchez and [Clement] Lenglet.”

Romero has been one of Tottenham’s standout player since his arrival in the summer of 2021.

He has made 32 appearances for the club across all competitions.
