Cristiano Ronaldo cited amid ’embarrassing’ Chelsea claim – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed the attitude of some Chelsea players is “embarrassing”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Thiago Silva’s recent comments show the poor mentality of the members of the squad.

As quoted by Sky Sports following their second leg defeat to Real Madrid (20 April), Silva said the size of the current squad is an “issue” and insisted the club need to learn from the “mistakes” made this season.

The Blues look set to finish the season without any European football next year and have very little to play for in the remaining games of the campaign.

McAvennie insisted Chelsea need to ship players out.

It is not good having that many players,” he told Football Insider.

“They have had to make the dressing room bigger plus they have lots of players on loan.”

It is embarrassing. Unfortunately in modern day football they do not care about the club, they only care about themselves.

[Cristiano] Ronaldo said it at Man United as well, that is not a good indictment. It just shows you the mentality of players when somebody like Silva is addressing it.

Chelsea

Sometimes people go to big clubs like Chelsea and think they have made it so they stop caring and that is not right.

Frank Lampard is not going to have time to weed out the ones that don’t want to be there but whoever comes in needs to get players out the door.
