Cristiano Ronaldo: Man United star savaged after ‘raging’ source’s update tonight – pundit
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Man United “honeymoon” is over and results won’t get better if his “whinging” continues, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 37-year-old is “feeling sorry for himself” after the Red Devils’ recent struggles.
Ronaldo ended his six-game barren run with a powerful drive as Man United beat Brighton 2-0 on Tuesday (15 February) amid a backdrop of discontent at Old Trafford.
According to BILD journalist Christian Falk (16 February), Red Devils stars including Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire are growing frustrated with the veteran’s attempts to lead the dressing room with his own “clique”.
A United source has told Football Insider on Friday night the first-team players are “raging” at the media claims.
Whelan insisted Ronaldo is not solely to blame for Man United’s failure to deliver on their early-season promise.
“I think the honeymoon period is well and truly over for Ronaldo,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“The hype has settled down.
“But it’s not just about Cristiano Ronaldo – he’s not the only reason why they’re not getting results. There are a lot of players who need to look in the mirror.
“We all know he’s a serial winner, we can all respect what he’s achieved in the game. If there’s anyone who’s going to be unhappy about the way things are going, it’s him.
“I thought with the players they brought in that they would be challenging for the title.
“That being said, it’s not going to get any better with some of the facials and the body language on show, and especially not with the whinging you see on the pitch.
“Walking off and not clapping the fans – that’s just feeling sorry for yourself.”

Ronaldo has netted 15 goals in 28 games this term.
Man United sit fourth in the Premier League.
