Cristiano Ronaldo: Rangnick tipped to be ‘overruled’ by next Man United manager after confirmed news – pundit

Paul Robinson is adamant the next Man United manager will want to work with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Therefore, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one believes the 37-year-old will remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season.

According to Manchester Evening News‘ Samuel Luckhurst (28 February), interim manager Ralf Rangnick has “major reservations” about Ronaldo leading the club’s attack next season.

The Portugal captain’s performances have been scrutinised amid United’s struggles this term.

However, it is unclear how big a say Rangnick will have on Ronaldo’s future with the German expected to move into a consultancy role in the summer.

Speaking to club media on Tuesday (1 March), the Red Devils football director John Murtough revealed a “thorough process” is underway to find the club’s new permanent manager.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Ronaldo’s future, Robinson said: “I cannot see him being moved on.

“Whoever comes in will want to work with Ronaldo. He’s one of the best players of all time and any manager would want him as part of the side. In that sense, I think whoever comes in will try to overrule Rangnick’s decision if that is his view.

“It would be an incredibly short-term relationship if it was to end in the summer.

“There needs to be a harmony struck though because there is a lot of characters in that dressing room. Too many big players are not performing. I cannot see it being Cristiano Ronaldo though.”
