Crystal Palace fans outraged as Oliver Glasner ‘kills his legacy’ with post-Sunderland comments
Oliver Glasner has been left mortified by his post-match comments as Crystal Palace fell to defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Already announcing his decision to search for a new challenge, Glasner is set to leave Palace at the end of the season, but Steve Parish could decide to part ways with the manager much before then.
It has only been a week since Macclesfield knocked the Eagles out of the FA Cup, and everything appears to have imploded at Selhurst Park, with Marc Guehi now set to join Man City this month.
Brian Brobbey scored the winner on Saturday, 17 January, after first-half goals from Yeremy Pino and Enzo Le Fee, adding yet more upset and heartbreak to Palace’s already awful week.
At full-time, the manager refused to blame his players, aiming fingers at the hierarchy, claiming to feel “abandoned” over the size of his squad, despite the January transfer window being open.
Oliver Glasner is asking to be sacked by Steve Parish
Just days after admitting that this would be his final season at Selhurst Park, the irony of his comments has not been lost on the supporters, with one fan accusing him of “killing his legacy”.
Of course, losing Guehi to the Citizens is a huge blow, given that he is the captain, but blaming the board for not backing an exit-bound manager has not gone down well with the travelling fans.
Glasner helped the club win its first major trophy when beating Man City in the FA Cup final last season, but all of his good work appears to be tumbling down right before his eyes.
- @Crouch199028: “We do not have the players to play this system, Glasner. 10 games without a win. Absolutely killing your legacy for being stubborn. You ain’t getting no big job at this rate!”
- @trueadventures: “Maresca, Amorim and now Glasner. Is there such a thing as a ‘come and sack me’ plea?”
- @biigpapilocstaa: “Glasner expecting to be backed in the January market when announcing to Parish that he’s leaving in October is hilarious. Delusional. Sack him.”
Premier League clubs on high alert for Glasner
Several clubs will already be keeping tabs on Glasner’s situation at Selhurst Park, and alarm bells might soon be ringing following his outburst at the final whistle.
Gareth Southgate has already emerged as the favourite to replace the Eagles’ boss, but Parish has a very difficult challenge on his hands to replace the FA Cup-winning manager.
Man United‘s current managerial situation is a little more difficult after Michael Carrick was given the interim role until the end of the season, but plenty of other managers are under pressure.
Thomas Frank could be sacked by Tottenham after the defeat to West Ham at home, with Arne Slot not in the best position after Liverpool could only draw with Burnley at Anfield.
Things can change very quickly in the Premier League, and Palace’s managerial situation is certainly one of those.
