Crystal Palace have ‘started negotiations’ with new manager contenders

Crystal Palace could begin their search now for a new manager in preparation for the summer transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is backing Oliver Glasner to remain at Selhurst Park until the end of the season.

Glasner has confirmed he will leave Crystal Palace when the season ends, citing a lack of investment in the squad as a primary reason for his departure.

Amid key players leaving the club during his tenure, Glasner has clashed with the Crystal Palace board, with the Austrian believing his squad is not strong enough to compete in the Premier League and in Europe.

Crystal Palace ‘to start early’ in manager hunt

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is confident Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish will make the right managerial appointment when Glasner leaves.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the Crystal Palace squad does need strengthening in the summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I trust Parish to get this right and strengthen in some way with a new manager in the summer and that’s going to be key.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to have those negotiations started pretty early and having some backchannel conversations with a new manager as to what sort of squad he’d be looking at. And I think Glasner will be there till the end of the season.

“I don’t think he’ll leave any earlier unless there is another further blowout, but I think we’ve had all the incidents that can happen. Unless there’s some other major thing that happens this week in the transfer window that wasn’t expected, I don’t expect them to resign. I’d expect to see how this contracts and then try and get a move in the summer.”

Crystal Palace frustrated in Sidiki Cherif talks

Wrexham’s £19million bid for Sidiki Cherif has put Crystal Palace on the back foot in pursuit of the Angers forward.

Crystal Palace have been in talks with Angers for Cherif, but they have been unable to reach an agreement on any deal.

The Eagles want to add a new forward to their ranks with Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future uncertain at Selhurst Park.
