Crystal Palace lining up move for Arsenal 25-year-old midfielder – report
By Abigail Withey
Crystal Palace are plotting to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in a loan deal, according to a recent report.
The Sun has revealed that the Premier League outfit are lining up their second loan bid for the 25-year-old England international.
The newspaper claims that the Eagles were close to securing a season-long loan deal with the midfielder last summer, but the club were overtaken by fellow Premier League side Bournemouth.
It is said that Palace’s potential loan deal depends on Wilshere’s future at Arsenal as the playmaker is currently entering the last 12 months of his contract and is yet to renew it.
The Sun, citing a source, report that new manager Frank de Boer is looking to recruit the injury-prone midfielder and that the club have already approached the Gunners.
The source was quoted by the newspaper which said: “Crystal Palace have made an approach and want Jack for the season.
“Jack is out of contract at the end of next season and Arsenal are offering him a new one.
“They will only loan him out if he signs a new contract — otherwise they want to either sell him or keep him at the Emirates.”
The Englishman has be struck by a number of injuries, and most recently the attacker’s loan spell at Bournemouth was cut short after he fractured his left leg against Tottenham in April.
Wilshere is close to returning to full training but has not joined the rest of the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour to Australia and China.
Football Insider verdict
Wilshere has been a key figure at the Emirates since joining the senior squad as a 16-year-old back in 2008 and made an impact during his 160 appearances. However, the playmaker has suffered over 13 injuries throughout his time with the Gunners which has made hin heavily unreliable. A second loan spell could prove useful for Wilshere as playing regular first team football to aid his recovery will quicken up the process, but it all depends on Wenger’s stance on the player. The England international became a favourite face among fans at Arsenal, but the Gunner’s boss needs to weigh up whether the 25-year-old is likely to return to playing his former talent within the Arsenal squad. So while seeing the Arsenal midfielder return to the pitch at the Emirates would be favourable among supporters, his injury-prone nature could hinder the club at the same time.
