Crystal Palace respond to Tottenham interest in Adam Wharton

Crystal Palace are set to demand upwards of £100million to part ways with Adam Wharton this summer amid interest from Tottenham.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 21-year-old’s future at Selhurst Park amid growing fears of a mass exodus.

Oliver Glasner is determined to keep his best players at the club after last season’s FA Cup win, and will do everything in his power to keep Wharton.

Football Insider first revealed in February that Tottenham are interested in signing Wharton as he fits the profile of player they are aiming to bring into the squad.

Alongside Spurs, the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Real Madrid have been keeping close tabs on the England international as a long-term midfield target.

However, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are confident of keeping Wharton this summer alongside the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Crystal Palace respond to Tottenham interest in Adam Wharton

Brown told Football Insider in March that Tottenham will rival Man City for Wharton’s signature but are concerned it would cost a “huge” fee to agree a deal.

The Eagles’ midfielder played a key role in their FA Cup success after returning from injury in February, while they have high hopes for his long-term development.

O’Rourke explained that alongside fears of losing the likes of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, Palace are determined not to lose too many key players.

Palace are doing everything they can to keep hold of Adam Wharton,” he told Football Insider.

“Palace are trying to scare off suitors by saying it’ll be at least £100million for him.

“I think that might be a bit steep, I don’t think Tottenham would be going anywhere near that to try and sign Adam Wharton, but that’s what Palace are doing.

“They’re fighting to keep hold of their best players.

“I think Wharton will be thinking at some point that he might want to move on to a bigger club and play Champions League football and everything else.

“But I don’t think he’ll push for a move right now, that’s not something that would happen this summer.

“He’s under a long-term contract until 2029 and I don’t think Palace are in any real urgent need to sell him, so Palace are confident they can keep Wharton.

“I don’t see Spurs getting anywhere near that £100million price tag.”

Morgan Gibbs-White update emerges as Spurs

Alongside their pursuit of Wharton, Spurs hold a well-documented interest in Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White despite their deal being derailed.

Football Insider revealed on 18 July that Tottenham are still expected to sign Gibbs-White despite his club threatening legal action which has delayed the move.

The attacking midfielder was originally set to undergo a medical at Spurs’ training ground last week after agreeing to the move, before Forest put the breaks on.

Forest accused Tottenham of making an illegal approach to Gibbs-White, having never given permission for the talks, and threatened to take legal action as a result.
