Crystal Palace should hand new role to Roy Hodgson after deal agreed
Crystal Palace chiefs should keep Roy Hodgson at the club to advise new manager Oliver Glasner.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie admitted the former Frankfurt coach was a “good” appointment for the Eagles, but warned that losing Hodgson’s experience could prove costly.
Hodgson stepped down as Palace boss before his contract expired at the end of the season but Glasner, who won the Europa League with Frankfurt, is seen as a huge coup for the Premier League strugglers.
Glasner was in attendance alongside chairman Steve Parish for Palace’s 1-1 draw at Everton on Monday night (19 February) and held his first training session the following day.
Should Crystal Palace keep Roy Hodgson on?
McAvennie feared that Glasner’s lack of Premier League experience could provide issues and claimed he didn’t understand why Palace would not keep Hodgson in an advisory capacity.
“I think Glasner is a good appointment for Palace,” he told Football Insider.
“But the thing is, keeping Hodgson there [alongside Glasner] would have been perfect because the guy has never managed in England.
“It would have been perfect if he had Roy’s ear.
“You can’t get that kind of advice anywhere else, but it would be huge for them.
“Glasner will do it his own way, but to have that advice would have been great.

“They should have Roy upstairs with a cup of tea and sometimes go and see what he thinks.
“I don’t understand clubs that don’t do that because these senior boys’ experience is second to none.”
