Crystal Palace to make ‘huge’ Marc Guehi transfer decision – top source

Crystal Palace will have to make a “huge” decision about Marc Guehi’s future at the club amid growing concerns about his contract situation.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game as he exclusively told Football Insider that a decision will be made come the end of the season.

The 22-year-old’s current deal at Selhurst Park is set to expire in 2026, and there is a growing feeling that Palace may have to accept an offer in 2025 in a last-ditch attempt to make money from his sale.

However, Brown has insisted they could cut their losses and let him run down his contract given his importance to the team, as they will not want to see him leave early.

Guehi is Palace’s club captain and remains a crucial part of Oliver Glasner’s plans, having started all 17 games across all competitions so far this season.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have seen a number of key players leave including Michael Olise, Jordan Ayew and Joachim Andersen and Brown has insisted they will not want to see more leave.

It was said that the upheaval of players both outgoing and incoming has contributed to Palace’s slow start to the season where they have won just two of their opening 14 league games.

Crystal Palace weigh up ‘huge’ Marc Guehi decision

Despite Guehi’s contract ticking down, Brown has insisted Palace are unlikely to drop their valuation too far, raising questions about whether clubs will be interested.

The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Palace need to weigh up what he is worth to them compared to what they could sell him for.

“I wouldn’t expect his price tag to drop too far,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a very talented player, still only young, and is a regular in the England side now.

“So of course there’s plenty of interest in his signature from the top clubs, and especially given his ongoing contract situation.

“But he’s vitally important to Crystal Palace, and they have to be careful that they don’t let too many players leave all at once.

“We say Olise, Ayew and Andersen leave in the summer, and there’s interest in the likes of Eze and Wharton now as well.

“Palace can’t keep losing key players and maintain the standard they’ve set. They’ll drop like a stone. So they’ll have to make a decision about Guehi.

“Do they sell him in the summer and risk losing another key player, or do they let him run down his contract and keep him for another year?

“It’s a huge decision, because letting a player like that leave for free would be a blow, but so would losing him in the summer after a lot of upheaval.
