Crystal Palace to open Odsonne Edouard talks imminently – sources

Crystal Palace could open talks with Odsonne Edouard over a new contract in the early part of the 2024-25 campaign, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in less than 12 months’ time.

Palace are desperate not to let Edouard run down his contract and leave for free in the summer of 2025.

They will attempt to tie the forward down to renewed terms before the festive period in a bid to preserve his value.

Sources say talks are expected to open soon after the summer transfer window slams shut on 31 August.

As it stands, Edouard will be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January 2025.

But Football Insider revealed on Monday (29 July) that Crystal Palace are keen to keep Edouard on as they are not blessed with attacking options.

Jean-Philippe Mateta will start the new season as the undisputed first-choice striker at Palace following his stellar goalscoring form last term.

But Michael Olise has left Selhurst Park and Eberechi Eze has been widely linked with a summer move.

Edouard scored eight goals in 33 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 season, starting in 19 of those outings.

He has hit 21 goals in 101 Palace games since joining from Celtic in 2021.
