Crystal Palace’s January transfer plan revealed – O’Rourke

Crystal Palace are set to be among the busiest clubs in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Eagles are looking to recruit new players to aid in their push for survival after a tricky start to the season.

This comes with Palace having won just one of their opening 12 Premier League games so far, adding pressure to Oliver Glasner’s position.

However, sources say the club are keen to stick by the manager after showing promising signs despite struggling for wins, and will back him heavily in January.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Palace are prioritising a move to strengthen their attacking talent when the transfer window opens.

Michael Olise’s £50million move to Bayern Munich in the summer left the Eagles short of numbers up front, while injuries to Eddie Nketiah and Eberechi Eze have exposed their lack of depth.

Meanwhile, well-connected former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club are also looking to sign backup options for Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz.

Crystal Palace January transfer plan revealed amid Glasner pressure

Quality strength in depth has been a serious problem for the Eagles, and was evident yet again as they named a weakened bench in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.

Late in the game, with the game tightly matched, Unai Emery’s side were able to bring on Matty Cash, Jhon Duran, Emi Buendia, Lucas Digne and Jaden Philogene.

Palace, meanwhile, brought on Jefferson Lerma, Jeffrey Schlupp, Nathaniel Clyne and Chris Richards, highlighting the difference in their depth options.

Glasner also named two goalkeepers, Matt Turner and Remi Matthews, and two youngsters, Caleb Kporha and Asher Agbinone on the bench – with a combined four Premier League appearances between them.

As a result, Palace are expected to face a busy transfer window as they look to add quality options to their side to help balance the injury issues they have faced.

Ahead of the clash with Villa, Glasner revealed that he is expecting the transer team to act quickly in the window as he revealed: “The goal of all of us is that if we sign a player, we sign him on January 1 and he starts training with us.

“We play Chelsea on January 4 and then the 11th is the FA Cup. We hope we play in the EFL Cup semi-finals in January.

“The clear target for all of us is that if we sign a player, he will be here on January 1.”
