Cult hero pipped to the top in five best Tottenham stars in 2008 League Cup triumph

3. Ledley King

Tottenham appearances: 321 – Goals: 15

The 2008 winning campaign was undoubtedly the highlight of Ledley King’s career at Tottenham, having remained a one-man club loyal to the Lilywhites.

However, the chronic-injury which King suffered from had threatened to force him to sit out the clash, having missed the previous six games for Spurs – not that you could tell on the day.

The powerhouse centre back was on top of his game and showed no signs of his injury layoff, dominating the likes of Nicholas Anelka and Didier Drogba for large parts of the match and showing his leadership to marshal his defensive counterparts.

Without him at the back, Spurs could well have struggled against a threatening Chelsea attack, and he deserved to be lifting the trophy at full time.
