Curtis Jones responds as Jeremie Frimpong delivers emotional Liverpool message

Curtis Jones has responded to an emotional message shared by Jeremie Frimpong after Liverpool beat Preston 3-1 in their first pre-season game.

The Reds’ victory over the Championship outfit on Sunday, 13 July, marked their first outing since forward Diogo Jota’s tragic death.

Sunday afternoon also witnessed high-profile summer addition Frimpong make his debut for the defending Premier League champions.

Arne Slot’s men sealed their win via goals from Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez, and Netherlands international Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool displayed admirable spirit as they defeated Paul Heckingbottom’s men on away soil in difficult circumstances.

After his first win with the Reds on Sunday, Frimpong wrote on Instagram: “Together. Thank you, fans.”

England midfielder Jones showed his affection for his new teammate by commenting: “My boy” alongside a red heart emoji.

Frimpong was a key asset for Leverkusen

Thanks to Alexander-Arnold’s continued brilliance, Bradley spent the majority of the Anfield giants’ Premier League title-winning campaign watching the England international from the sidelines.

But Bradley is a talented right-back in his own right, and will now battle Frimpong for a regular spot in Slot’s starting lineup following his former teammate’s move to Madrid.

By scoring against Preston, albeit a goal against Championship opposition in pre-season, the Northern Ireland international has reminded Slot of his forward-thinking capabilities.

Frimpong will have to perform well in Liverpool’s friendlies ahead of next season to prove to the Dutchman that he is worthy of starting ahead of Bradley frequently.

Meanwhile, competition for places elsewhere on the pitch has increased after Liverpool signed attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Frimpong’s old side, Leverkusen.

Slot must also continue developing young talent at Anfield, as Liverpool News 247 have exclusively revealed that academy starlet Kareem Ahmed is set for a new contract.
