Curtis Jones sends heartfelt message to Tyler Morton amid Liverpool exit whispers

Curtis Jones has sent a heartfelt message to teammate Tyler Morton as rumours continue to emerge about his future at Liverpool beyond this summer.

Local lad Morton joined Liverpool aged seven back in 2009, and he has worked his way through their youth ranks to become a first-team player after making his senior debut in September 2021.

The midfielder has enjoyed successful loan spells at Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Hull City over the past few years, but he was kept on in Arne Slot’s squad last season as a back-up option in the middle of the park.

He made just five appearances all season as the Reds won the Premier League title, and his lack of game-time has led to rumours of a potential exit this summer, with The Times recently reporting that he is of interest to Portuguese side Braga, as well as AjaxWest Ham and Club Brugge.

Another new report from the Mail has stated that West Ham want to sign Morton and Harvey Elliott in a double Liverpool swoop, and so it certainly seems likely that the 22-year-old departs Anfield soon.

Morton shares message after Liverpool pre-season defeat

Liverpool’s second pre-season friendly of the summer ended in defeat to AC Milan on Saturday (26 July), and Morton was handed a rare start for the game as he was substituted off in the 32nd minute but then returned to the pitch in the 63rd minute.

The England youth international shared a heartfelt message after the loss, with some pictures of him in action alongside the caption: “20” and a red heart emoji to signify the tribute badge on the Reds players’ chests to their late teammate Diogo Jota.

Curtis Jones replied to his post with another red heart emoji, while fellow Hammers-linked man Elliott left two fire emojis and Darwin Nunez, Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister were among those who liked his message.

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider revealed in April that Elliott’s priority is to remain at Liverpool ahead of next season, but he has been frustrated with his lack of action at the club, so it certainly seems likely that he leaves soon to further his own career as the Reds spend big in the summer window.

To add to West Ham’s interest, Football Insider recently revealed that Elliott is being targeted by former club Fulham this summer, while former scout Mick Brown also told Football Insider on 15 July that Newcastle and Tottenham have both joined the race to sign Elliott.

For Morton, an exit seems more likely and straightforward due to his lesser status in Slot’s squad, but the Mail’s recent report states that the finances involved to take him to the London Stadium are set to make a move tough, while the Irons are also not keen to meet Elliott’s £50m asking price.

He could well join a club abroad, with Braga and Ajax eyeing a move, but he will likely wish to remain in the Premier League and close to home, so another loan could be on the cards to a lower top-flight side.
