Curtis Jones shares link-up with Anthony Gordon after £75m Liverpool update
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has posted a message to Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon after recent updates emerged around his potential move to Anfield.
The Reds are not wasting time making adjustments to their squad after their Premier League title win, after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid was confirmed in early June, with Jeremie Frimpong since arriving in his place from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool are closing in on signing Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, and Arne Slot also wants to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez after Andy Robertson was linked to Atletico Madrid.
Gordon, who was born on Merseyside and came through Everton’s youth ranks, is also a long-term target, and Football Insider revealed last month that the Newcastle attacker is still on Liverpool’s transfer radar after he came close to an Anfield switch last year.
The Magpies’ PSR situation is positive right now, as revealed by Football Insider, and so the Reds’ attempts to sign the 24-year-old could be in vain, but rumours over a move may have reignited due to new developments on social media.

Curtis Jones posts message to Anthony Gordon after Newcastle’s transfer fee demand to Liverpool was revealed
The England international winger registered nine goals and seven assists in 42 games in all competitions last season, and while Newcastle do not want to sell him, Football Insider recently revealed that it would take Liverpool between £75m and £80m to prise Gordon from St James’ Park this summer.
Slot may well be after a left-sided forward as the transfer window goes on, though, with Luis Diaz linked to Barcelona and Al-Nassr, and Reds midfielder Jones will have sparked fresh rumours of a move potentially happening by taking to his Instagram story on Wednesday (18 June) to post a picture of him and Gordon on holiday together with a fingers-crossed emoji to highlight their friendship and closeness off the pitch.
Jones and Gordon were each born in Liverpool and have played for the England national team together over the last few years, and Reds supporters will hope that their local-lad midfielder is trying to urge the Magpies man to push to join him at Anfield ahead of the new season.

Gordon’s arrival would cap-off a massively successful summer window for Liverpool
Football Insider verdict
Liverpool won the Premier League last season in Slot’s maiden season in charge, and they are certainly not looking to slow down after a lethargic end to the campaign that will likely have reinforced their desire to be active in the transfer market this summer.
Wirtz is obviously set to be the most high-profile addition of their window, but he will definitely not be the last despite the Reds’ wage bill surpassing £400million for the first time in the 2024/25 season, as revealed by Football Insider.

Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike is a target for Slot ahead of the new season, but they will need to offload a forward to bring him in with Darwin Nunez expected to leave Anfield soon, while Kerkez could soon join with The Times recently claiming that talks with Bournemouth are expected to “accelerate.”
Signing Gordon alongside the business they have already done and look set to do would make this summer window one of the best in their history, as the Newcastle man is the exact type of winger that Slot needs right now, and he already knows the club well from being a boyhood Reds fan.
Gordon’s potential to improve even further and homegrown status makes him an obvious target, amd while Newcastle’s likely stubbornness in negotiations to sell him could well prove to be a major stumbling block in getting him to Anfield, attempting to sign him is, at least, worth a try from the Merseyside club’s point of view.
