Damning Ruben Amorim stat emerges as Man United fail to beat Fulham

Manchester United failed to win once again under Ruben Amorim as his side drew 1-1 away at Fulham to earn their first point of the season.

Amorim’s side went ahead after Leny Yoro’s header deflected off of Rodrigo Muniz’s back and past Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal.

The visitors were pegged back though when Emile Smith-Rowe took advantage of some lapse defending to poke home an equaliser from Alex Iwobi’s cross.

It ended level in London and one damning stat has revealed just how torrid Amorim’s time has been since moving to Manchester last November.

No escape as form continues to dip for Ruben Amorim

Amorim slipped to an unwanted record with last Sunday’s loss at home to Arsenal making him the quickest manager to 15 losses in Premier League history.

Following the draw with Fulham, OptaJoe revealed how bad things have been for Amorim since he came to England’s top flight.

As his win percentage has now dropped to 24.1% the Portuguese manager now has the same win percentage as infamous English manager Neil Warnock.

Amorim has won only seven of his 29 games in charge at Old Trafford, compared to Warnock’s 27 wins from 112 games.

What is worrying for Amorim is that Warnock’s record includes two relegations from the Premier League, which is something the 40-year-old would want to avoid.

Patterns of progress show but glaring weakness still shows

Football Insider verdict

United have begun the season with more reasons for optimism than were shown by how the team played under Amorim last season.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have shown flashes of their quality, showcasing the huge progress made in the summer with United’s revamped frontline.

Off the ball United are running more intensely and harrying opponents out of possession, and going forwards the play looks more threatening and incisive.

However, United’s midfield options have been thrown into the spotlight once again as Amorim’s side were dominated in the middle of the park by Fulham’s double pivot.

Sander Berge and Sasa Lukic bossed the midfield, and Bruno Fernandes, partnered with Casemiro were no match for them, and neither was Mason Mount when he dropped deeper, nor Manuel Ugarte when he came on.

Questions surround Kobbie Mainoo, who many think could do a job in the midfield, but United’s squad lacks an engine who has an expansive passing range in midfield areas.

Mainoo may develop into that profile but nothing is guaranteed, and the funds are tight so dipping into the transfer market at this stage seems unlikely, but whatever happens, Amorim needs to turn encouraging performances into results quickly.
