Daniel Farke could make U-turn on selling Leeds player who’s ‘the best he’s ever worked with’

Daniel Farke is already looking ahead to the January transfer window after his strong start to the season so far with Leeds United.

Having taken eight points from six Premier League games so far, with two wins, two draws and two defeats, Farke‘s side are drawing up plans to improve the squad.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Leeds want to sign a regular goalscorer amid reports linking them with an unlikely move for Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The arrivals of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Felix Nmecha and Noah Okafor have added some much-needed firepower to Farke’s squad, but improvements are needed.

As a result, questions have been asked about the current crop of strikers which saw Patrick Bamford released from his contract in August.

Daniel Farke speaks out about Joel Piroe’s role

The future of Joel Piroe has been up in the air at Leeds since their promotion to the Championship, with Farke aiming to add more attacking consistency to his squad.

Football Insider first revealed in April that Leeds believe Piroe is not good enough for the Premier League and would look to upgrade on him during the transfer window.

The arrivals of Calvert-Lewin, Nmecha and Okafor had cast further doubt over his future, but Farke has now spoken out in defence of his striker.

Piroe has been slammed for his Leeds performances so far this season, but with his manager’s support firmly behind him, he has been backed to turn around his form.

Having mentored some top-level strikers during his career, Piroe was named as the “best” Farke has worked with, in what is sure to be a boost to his confidence.

Farke could make a U-turn over selling Piroe

Farke was backed to sell Piroe during the summer transfer window amid ongoing doubts about his role in the squad and ability to perform in the Premier League.

A number of attacking additions, with more expected to follow in January, have placed the striker on unstable ground with many expecting him to be moved on.

Piroe has started three games so far this season but has so far failed to find the net, while Calvert-Lewin’s return to full fitness has cast him out of the starting XI.

Despite concerns about his playing time, Farke’s comments will serve as reassurance to the striker that he is still a significant part of Leeds’ plans for the future.

Any suggestions that he could be sold in January have now been put on the back-burner, and the striker will now be planning to strengthen his role in the squad.
