‘Daniel Levy could take exciting new Tottenham role’ after furious fan protest

Tottenham fans protested against the ownership of Daniel Levy and ENIC before and after the 1-0 win over Man United on Sunday (16 February).

More than 1,000 Spurs supporters showed their displeasure at the direction of their club with some remaining in the ground after the full-time whistle.

It has been widely reported in the last 12 months that Levy is in talks to sell a minority stake in Tottenham – a move which would value the club at around £3.75billion.

The chairman and members of his family own a 29.88% stake in Spurs’ holding company ENIC (who own almost 87% of the club), with Joe Lewis’s family holding the remaining 70.12%.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has suggested Levy could take a new role at Tottenham after any new investment.

Tottenham chairman Levy could take ‘business-only’ role, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed new investors could move Levy into a “business affairs” role at Spurs.

The 63-year-old took up his current in 2001 and is the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League.

Wyness claimed “fans would be happy” if Levy remained at the club but had no input on footballing matters.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “If they could split the responsibility and put Daniel in charge of business affairs, it’d be great.

“If any new investor could stop him having any input in football, the fans would be happy.

“I think then you’d have the best of both worlds.

“There were huge protests at the Spurs stadium at the weekend, they are very unhappy.

“This could be a solution that would work.

Tottenham are struggling in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou this season

“There’s no doubt there is a lot work still to be done around the stadium, like property development – and that could help the club go further.

“But I think he should stick to those areas, and the fans would demand that if a new investor came in.

“The Man United situation with Ratcliffe and the Glazers hasn’t worked out, but nevertheless – I think a football group could come in and lead the way forward.

“It could be an exciting way forward.”

Liverpool ‘very keen’ on Tottenham star

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Saturday (15 February) that Liverpool are “very keen” on signing Tottenham star Micky van de Ven this summer.

The Reds want a new centre-back even if Virgil van Dijk signs a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season.

Van de Ven is hugely rated by Arne Slot, who knows a lot about the 23-year-old’s capabilities and character from their respective backgrounds in the Netherlands.
