Daniel Levy ‘hurting’ after Tottenham announcement – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy “will be hurting” after spending £60million on Richarlison.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic and West Ham striker said Spurs are finally spending the money needed to bring long-awaited silverware to the club.

On Friday (1 July), the club announced the signing of Richarlison, 25, on a five-year contract.

The Brazilian has moved to north London after four years with Everton.

McAvennie suggested that the forward could be a potential long-term replacement for Son.

“He likes doing what Harry Kane’s doing now, coming deep but I think he’s more similar to Son.” he told Football Insider.

I think he’ll be happy to go and work with a coach like [Antonio] Conte at a club like Tottenham. They’re a big club, they’ve got a massive stadium and for the first time that I can remember Daniel Levy has given money.

It’ll hurt him spending money but they’ll start winning games.

When they got to the Champions League final they should’ve kicked on. So many teams have done it, they don’t kick on and they think they can just do the same the next year. It doesn’t happen because other teams buy players. Tottenham didn’t but they’re doing it now.

Everton signed Richarlison from Watford in a big-money deal in July 2018.

Since completing a move to Goodison Park, Richarlison has scored 53 goals and provided 14 assists in 152 across all appearances.
