Daniel Levy: Tottenham chief has ‘loosened reins’ after ‘£100m’ transfer decision – pundit
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has “loosened the reins” since the appointment of Antonio Conte, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Spurs’ transfer dealings last month suggest Conte has the full backing of Levy.
Tottenham signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus before Monday’s deadline.
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil and Jack Clarke left the club on loan, while Dele Alli joined Everton on a permanent deal.
According to the BBC (1 February), Everton signed Alli in a deal which could rise to £40million, with the first £10m payable after 20 appearances.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the transfer, Robinson said: “I just think it’s a great deal for everybody.
“For the player, he needed to move on. I have said that for a long time. When you look at Dele he had gone stale.
“It is also a big sign that Daniel Levy has loosened the reins a little bit. He is clearly letting the manager do what he wants to. There was a couple of incomings at Spurs but the manager was also allowed to move on the players that he wanted.

“They have also let Ndombele go. He was clearly a bad egg in the dressing room. Three managers tried and failed with him.
“Lo Celso was another moved on so if you total it up that’s £100million that the chairman has spent heading out the door. It’s a big sign that he’s backing the manager and letting him shape the squad.”
