Daniel Munoz sends fiery message after Crystal Palace latest

Oliver Glasner had Daniel Munoz to rely on as one of several unsung heroes in his Crystal Palace side last season.

Crystal Palace are preparing to break new frontiers ahead of the new campaign, and will play European football for the very first time after their victory over Manchester City in May’s FA Cup Final at Wembley.

The Eagles’ participation on the continent has been thrown into chaos after UEFA’s decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League, due to their rules on multi-club ownership.

Steve Parish has challenged the decision to deny Crystal Palace their Europa League place in favour of John Textor’s financially-stricken Lyon, but it remains to be seen if this appeal will be successful.

Next season will also be Palace’s first since 2011–12 without long-serving skipper Joel Ward following his departure at the end of his contract, and this has already led to a shake-up with their right-back options.

Munoz celebrates new role at Crystal Palace

Ward’s emotional exit from Selhurst Park this summer leaves Nathaniel Clyne as the only Palace player to experience life outside the Premier League with the Eagles, but he’s unlikely to be first choice next term.

That’s because Munoz has the right wing-back role on lockdown in Glasner’s well-drilled setup, with six goals and eight assists last season including the final pass for Eberechi Eze’s winner in the FA Cup Final.

Munoz has made himself undroppable since his arrival in January 2024 and has already showed his attacking prowess in pre-season, scoring Palace’s third in a 3-0 win over Crawley Town on 25 July.

The Colombian posted an image of his celebration on his Instagram story (26 July) after the match, alongside a ‘fire’ emoji and his new squad number of ‘2’, after inheriting the shirt worn by Ward.

Crystal Palace braced for defensive exits amid Guehi interest

Football Insider Verdict

Much of Palace’s effort to bulk up Glasner’s squad so far this summer has come in defence, with Nice goalkeeper Walter Benitez arriving on a free transfer and Borna Sosa making a £3million move from Ajax.

Sosa will challenge Tyrick Mitchell for a spot at left wing-back as Palace chose not to sign Ben Chilwell permanently after his loan move from Chelsea, but Munoz makes any additions on the right unneccesary.

At centre-back, Marc Guehi continues to attract interest from Liverpool as he enters the final year of his Palace contract, and although Glasner’s system has worked to good effect so far, it could be all change at Selhurst if their captain does depart.
