Danny Ings expected to leave Aston Villa in part-exchange for ‘top player’ – pundit

Paul Robinson has urged Aston Villa to move for “top player” Yves Bissouma this summer – even if it means losing Danny Ings.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old striker “hasn’t settled” at Villa Park since his move last summer (2021).

Football Insider revealed last week (7 April) that Aston Villa have registered their interest in signing Bissouma once again after failing with a January bid.

Football Insider also broke the news of Brighton’s interest in Ings last month (18 March).

The England international has scored just five Premier League goals since joining from Southampton in a reported £25million move.

Robinson insisted a swap deal involving Ings would be “worth doing” from Aston Villa’s perspective.

“He’s not settled at Villa,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He hasn’t had the goals or the impact that I expected him to. At the beginning of the season, many people were tipping him to be one of the coups of the summer.

“It hasn’t worked out for him or Villa.

“Bissouma is a top player, and we know Gerrard has been after him since he took the job.

“If Ings leaves, they’d have to replace him – but it’s worth doing if they can get Bissouma in.”

Aston Villa

Aston Villa sit 12th in the Premier League with seven games remaining.

Bissouma is out of contract at the end of next season.
