Darren England applauded as PGMOL expert reacts to ‘harsh’ Kevin Schade sanction vs Man City
Darren England was spot on to caution Brentford’s Kevin Schade for his actions during the 1-0 defeat to Man City.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the referee was simply following the rules by brandishing a yellow card to the frustrated attacker.
On the stroke of half-time, one minute into added time, Schade was brought down by Ruben Dias, and England was not planning on getting his notebook out until the forward waved his hand in the air.
Gianluigi Donnarumma was key to Man City’s victory at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, 5 October, especially making one huge save to deny an on-rushing Igor Thiago.
Kevin Schade must learn to control his frustrations for Brentford
One of the biggest blows was Rodri’s new injury at Man City, with Brentford‘s Yehor Yarmoliuk also picking up a setback during the 90 minutes of the tightly fought affair.
The closeness of the game was exactly why Schade was so frustrated. Unsurprisingly, the Citizens dominated possession, meaning the Bees only had a single shot on target at home.
However, players must learn when to pick their battles with referees, especially with the rule of only captains being allowed a voice, but the 23-year-old was unable to stop himself from complaining.
Thiago was tipped to cause damage to Man City, who have been struggling for form this season, but he could do very little to help his attacking teammate in the final third.
Darren England had no other choice but to sanction Brentford star
Hackett spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the situation, saying: “Within the education and coaching of referees throughout world football, when a player gesticulates that a yellow card should be shown, he will get a yellow card.
“Darren England is carrying out the advice that he’s been given and the law he has to demonstrate. It might seem harsh, but it’s what he’s told to do.”
Schade also picked up a yellow card during the win over Man United, but rather than for dissent, it was his challenge on Matheus Cunha that was the problem this time.
