Darwin Nunez: Pundit shares verdict on Man United hijacking Liverpool’s £80m deal
Man United have no chance of signing Darwin Nunez as they are not a Champions League club.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ transfer struggles.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (10 June) that Liverpool have entered talks with Benfica over a deal for Nunez worth over £60million – plus add-ons that could take it towards the £80m mark.

A Reds source told this site that the Uruguayan is pushing for the move to be sealed “as soon as possible” and would even want it done by the end of the week if possible.
However, the Daily Express has claimed (9 June) that Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes will meet with Man United in a last-minute effort to gazump their northwest rivals.
When asked if Man United have any chance of winning the race for Nunez, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Not for me.
“The way Man United are at the minute, you have Liverpool challenging for the title and the Champions League.
“I can’t see any way he chooses Man United over Liverpool if I’m honest.
“I’m sure he will pick Liverpool if it comes down to it. This will keep happening to Man United as long as they are out of the Champions League.
“Top players want to play at the top level and Manchester United currently aren’t there.
“They can’t pick the same players they used to, they have to get used to that.”

Nunez netted 34 goals from 41 matches in all competitions in 2021-22.
His current deal runs until June 2025.
